FLUTES AND VOICES

Henri Tournier is one of the greatest French flutists today, both western flutist and Indian flutist, classical musician and contemporary improviser. His journey is that of a musician who has always sought to broaden his field of knowledge and experience.

His meeting in 1987 with the immense Hindustani musician and master of the bansuri flute Hariprasad Chaurasia constitutes a turning point in his career: he became his disciple and his assistant at the National Conservatory of Rotterdam within his class of Indian flute, and published in 2010 at Accords Croisés the double book-disc "Hariprasad Chaurasia and the art of improvisation".

With his disc "Souffles du Monde", Henri Tournier explores the terra incognita that constitutes the conversation between the flute and the voice, surrounding himself with ten singers from different traditions and practices: Dorsaf Hamdani (Tunisia), Alireza Ghorbani (Iran), Pronab Biswas (India), Ustad Farida Mahwash (Afghanistan), Abida Parveen (Pakistan), Enkhjargal Dandarvaanchig alias Epi (Mongolia), Etsuko Chida (Japan), Anne-Marie Lablaude, Dominique Vellard and Carole Hémard (France) .
Centered on a dialogue between West and East, some universals are asserted, others bypass, twist, explode: a salutary adventure, for a new mapping of the flute, of the voice.
